The service

5MB.me provides free browser-based tools that attempt to reduce supported PDF and image files. Compression occurs on your device. The service may change, add, remove, suspend, or discontinue features at any time, including file limits, supported formats, compression modes, and offline behavior.

Eligibility and authority

You may use the service only if you can legally agree to these terms. If you use it for an organization, you represent that you are authorized to accept these terms for that organization. A parent or guardian must supervise use where applicable law requires it.

Your files and permissions

You retain all rights you hold in files you process. You are solely responsible for ensuring that you own the file or have every permission, consent, and lawful basis needed to access, modify, compress, download, and share it.

Do not use the service with unlawful, infringing, malicious, abusive, or unauthorized material. Do not process another person's confidential, private, copyrighted, regulated, or personal information unless you are legally entitled to do so.

Local processing and no storage service

5MB.me is not a document repository, backup provider, records-management system, secure vault, electronic-signature platform, or professional compliance service. Keep your own verified copy of every important source file and result.

Closing or refreshing the page can permanently end an active compression session. Browser crashes, memory limits, service-worker changes, storage clearing, or device restrictions may also interrupt access.

Output quality and target sizes

Compression is a best-effort transformation. 5MB.me does not guarantee that a file will reach a requested target, preserve exact visual quality, retain searchable or selectable text, maintain forms, links, metadata, accessibility structure, color profiles, signatures, embedded files, or satisfy any third-party upload system.

You must inspect every output before relying on, submitting, signing, publishing, deleting, or distributing it. Keep the original. Aggressive PDF modes may rasterize pages, and aggressive image modes may reduce dimensions or introduce visible artifacts.

Acceptable use

You must not interfere with the service or use it in a way that harms others. Prohibited conduct includes:

• Attempting to bypass security, probe vulnerabilities, disrupt availability, or access systems without authorization.
• Using automated traffic, scraping, or resource-intensive requests in a manner that degrades the service.
• Distributing malware, unlawful material, or files intended to deceive, exploit, threaten, harass, or infringe others.
• Misrepresenting 5MB.me output as certified, verified, legally compliant, lossless, or guaranteed for a particular purpose.

Intellectual property

The service, branding, interface, original articles, and software provided by 5MB.me are protected by applicable intellectual-property laws. These terms give you a limited, revocable, non-exclusive, non-transferable right to use the service for its intended purpose. They do not transfer ownership of the service or grant rights to use the 5MB.me name, marks, design, or content outside ordinary use of the site.

Third-party software and links

The service uses open-source libraries and browser capabilities that may be governed by separate licenses. Links to third-party sites are provided for convenience and do not imply endorsement. 5MB.me is not responsible for third-party services, destination upload portals, browser extensions, device software, or their terms and privacy practices.

No warranties

To the maximum extent permitted by law, the service is provided as is and as available, without warranties of any kind, whether express, implied, or statutory. This includes implied warranties of merchantability, fitness for a particular purpose, title, non-infringement, availability, accuracy, security, quality, compatibility, and error-free operation. Nothing in these terms excludes a warranty or consumer right that cannot legally be excluded.

Limitation of liability

To the maximum extent permitted by law, 5MB.me and its operator, contributors, suppliers, and service providers will not be liable for indirect, incidental, special, consequential, exemplary, or punitive damages, or for loss of files, data, revenue, profits, opportunity, goodwill, business, or expected savings arising from or related to the service.

Where liability cannot be excluded, the aggregate liability arising from the free service will be limited to the greater of the amount you paid to use the service during the twelve months before the event giving rise to the claim or USD 10, except where applicable law requires a different remedy or limit.

Indemnity

To the extent permitted by law, you agree to defend, indemnify, and hold harmless 5MB.me and its operator, contributors, and providers from claims, losses, liabilities, and reasonable costs arising from your unlawful use of the service, your breach of these terms, or your violation of another person's rights. This obligation does not apply to the extent a claim was caused by the indemnified party's own unlawful conduct.

Enforcement, suspension, and changes

Access may be limited or blocked where reasonably necessary to protect the service, users, providers, or the public; respond to abuse or legal requests; or enforce these terms. These terms may be updated as the service changes. Continued use after the effective date of revised terms constitutes acceptance where permitted by law.

Applicable law, disputes, and general terms

These terms are governed by the laws that apply to the service operator and your use, without overriding mandatory consumer protections or conflict-of-law rules that cannot be waived. Courts or dispute-resolution bodies with lawful jurisdiction may hear disputes.

If any provision is unenforceable, it will be modified only as much as necessary and the remaining provisions will continue. Failure to enforce a provision is not a waiver. These terms and the Privacy Policy form the entire agreement concerning the service unless a separate written agreement applies.
